Beech Developments’ New Joinery Apprentice wins Award for Excellent Attitude, Good Attendance and Overall Practical Work
Ben Hankey, Beech Developments’ new joinery apprentice was celebrating following his award for “Outstanding Achievement in the Wood Occupations Course 2014 – 2015”, organised by Grwp Llandrillo Menai. These awards are designed to recognise the outstanding achievements of all those involved in Apprenticeships and all other work-based learning programs across Wales.
Deputy Minister for Skills, Jeff Cuthbert said: “These awards recognise excellence by individuals, employers and learning providers in delivering training. I am delighted with the standard of this year’s finalists and the variety across all ages and sectors, which shows the strength of the skills being delivered in Wales.
Ben Hankey said “It is a great achievement and something I am very proud of. Having secured an apprentice position at Beech Developments with the help of Coleg Llandrillo, I was saving up to buy all the tools of the trade that I would need. Just before I went to buy them I won the award and the prize was a fantastic set of joinery tools from Richard Williams in Llandudno Junction. I won various drills, chisels, planes, tool bags and saws, all the basics I needed to work on site. It saved me a fortune. I couldn’t have wished for anything better.
Matthew Gilmartin, Managing Director of Beech Developments added
“We are very proud of Ben who only turned 18 last week. He is doing exceptionally well and deserves this special accolade. As a key employer in the area, Beech Developments can see the huge value and potential in providing apprenticeship schemes for local people to help them into full time employment. As an employer we are guaranteed apprentices who are keen and driven individuals with the right attitude and willingness to work. This in turn is good for us as an employer.”
